Neema - African Green Bullet Chilli Paste - 106g

When we first saw these little jars we thought they were a little on the small size, however the saying 'big things come in small packages' was clearly created for this range. These pack A LOT of flavour in to each spoonful and unlike watered down supermarket versions, one jar will go a long way (that said, I would suggest you take the opportunity to order a few jars!).

Similar to a sweet chilli sauce but only spicier, this paste is made with Green Bullet Chillies from Kenya which is similar in shape and size to a Jalepeno.

What does it taste like?

Sweet with a hint of fresh tangy undertones. It will remind you of a sweet chilli sauce you use to have until you replaced it with this one! It’s a really flavoursome paste that will enhance your meals.

What’s in it?

Green Bullet Chillies, Onions, Spring Onions, Garlic, Organic Tomato Paste, Rapeseed and Olive Oil.

How spicy is it?

MEDIUM heat

Green Bullet Chili has a heat rating between 50,000 to 80,000 on the Scoville scale. This is a 5 out of 10 in terms of heat.

  • In 1976, my mum made this chilli sauce to take to boarding school because the food was horrible and she used it to add flavour to her meals.

This chilli sauce has been in my family for 3 generations now and is our heritage. It encapsulates delicious central African cuisine where for centuries the food has remained traditional. It represents a story going back a thousand years involving Middle Eastern influences reflected in our Swahili culture.

I have lived in London for almost 20 years now and noticed the lack of representation of African food in retail outlets. I sought to change this by introducing you to our family range of chilli sauces through our premium brand Neema.

Neema is the Swahili word for Grace. It is my African name and means unmerited favour. Neema will transport you to the town of Kisangani in the Oriental Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo where traditional dishes are made using a range of beautifully blended spices to bring flavour to local dishes.

Our sauces are packed with flavour! We've ensured that it is so by using only 100% natural ingredients. We've not comprised on quality so that we can have a sauce that is authentic, healthy and tasty. Our sauces are vegan too and have no added sugar so you can have peace of mind that you are getting some real nutrients in your body.

I hope you will come to enjoy our sauces like our many customers who have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • As regular visitors to the store will be aware, we love artisan products that retain their heritage, and Rose really has produced a product that is authentic in every way. These sauces really pack a punch and I would suggest adding a little at a time. That said they are very addictive and, used with care, they lift everything they touch.
